Internet Usage in China
We can see a steady increase in terms of the number of Chinese internet users over the last five years, as we look at the graph shown below with data from June 2011 to June 2015. According to China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC), by June 2015 the Chinese internet users have reached 667.69 million.
There are three main factors which drove the internet user growth from 2014 to 2015. First, the government in China strengthened network security and internet governance by carrying out new acts, which in turn boosted the development of the internet and new media. Second, the internet operators have been vigorously promoting flexible and attractive products. The process of 4G commercialization was initiated in an all-around way in 2014. Third, many enterprises such as Sina Weibo, Jingdong, Alibaba and other well-known internet enterprises were listed in the US, making “internet” a hot word in the Chinese society.
